The Reality Of Real World - 1661 Words

With an increasing amount of technology invested in virtual reality, real life is now merging with a fictional world that can be created and manipulated. Another manner in which the real world is capable of joining a manufactured world is through the usage of comic books. Real world events have been and are continuously mixed up with the lives of superheroes such as when heroes were depicted fighting against Hitler and the Nazi’s in World War II. There are two main types of representations of real world events and that is through indirect representation using allegories and metaphors and directly representing them by simply showing the incidents within the comics. Comics represent real events more efficiently through allegories as opposed to directly having those situations intertwined within the stories because of several reasons including that it gives readers an opportunity to reflect on certain events if they see the connection between the comic and the event. However, they are not forced to see the reference such as when the event is clearly illustrated within the story because this would retract a reader’s ability to escape from the real world to a fictional world. One comic that has an indirect representation of current events is Marvel’s Civil War. The story starts off with a group of rookie superheroes that are attempting to capture some villains. The Effect of Sleep Deprivation on the Academic Performance of College Students Sleep is something that every human experiences nearly every night. It is essential for achieving personal wellness, similar to how a nutritious diet and exercise are needed in order to be healthy. However, the stereotype of college students sometimes staying awake extremely late at night in order to finish their assignments still persists. This is a very unhealthy lifestyle choice if it is done repeatedly. In order for students to receive the most benefits from sleeping, the National Sleep Foundation suggests that they receive seven to nine hours of sleep per night (Sleep Foundation). Not only can this habit greatly improve one’s cognitive functions, but it also leads to a healthier lifestyle by avoiding risks brought on by chronic sleep deprivation. These risks include an increased chance of obtaining diabetes and heart disease. For students, this dilemma can be solved by scheduling more time to sleep, but many do not see the importance of it. Some students even see value in studying throughout the night before a test the next morning because they believe it will improve their chances of scoring well. However, it is much more beneficial for students to maintain a regular and healthy sleep schedule, due to the fact that a significant loss of sleep can greatly inhibit a student’s academic performance. Their opinions should be collected from various meetings. At the same time, they are required to be provided with effective training programs so that they can use the system correctly (Hall, 2012). They are required to be provided with basic training about the system for understanding the basics so that they can provide required feedbacks (Simkin, Norman Rose, 2014). System Sign-Offs: The final approval of the system lies on the hands of these people, as they are the decision-makers. For this reason, all the reports related to the outcome of meetings and trainings are needed to be send to them so that they can analyze the feasibility of the financial system. They will provide approval when they are satisfied with outcomes (Hall, 2012). IS Staff: These people are the IT representatives and they are required to know everything about the financial system so that they can provide assistance in various aspect like troubleshooting, implementation and effective running. Thus, meetings are required to be arranged with them for explaining various dimensions of the new financial system (Simkin, Norman Rose, 2014). However, the implementation of Cognos will eliminate this issue, as there is large scope for customization in this system. Under the current financial system of EFS Strategic, it is a time consuming and large job for the technical team to make necessary up-gradation. Thus, the company faces huge problems in this aspect. However, the implementation of Cognos will reduce the challenge for the company as the new services and products can be effectively rolled out in this system. Under the existing financial system in EFS Strategic, it is required for the company to buy licenses for using the system in multiple computers for each computer and this process is expensive for the company. However, in case of Cognos, all the computers of the companies can be4 connected with this system without any additional licensing cost. Cost is considered as a major challenge for the company with their existing financial system as they have to bear huge cost as fees for the use of the system. However, the implementation of Cognos will provide the organization with various accounting tools and system with the same cost (Ren, Wang Wang, 2012). Stowe places the reader in the story by including every aspect that a slave would live through. She expresses religion and mortality from both the south and the north. Stowe shows the treatment of slaves living in all kinds of conditions. The book starts out in a calm, settling way. The slaves are with a nice family and are happy. Then, Stowe takes the reader through an ironic twist. A slave trader comes to Mr. Shelbys house, and in return for a debt, he wants two slaves. The slave trader wants Tom, a hard working, religious man, and Elizas young child. Tom accepts what has happened, looks to the Lord and does what is expected. On the other hand, Eliza runs away and takes her son with her before the new owner could claim her. Ironically, the reader would assume that Uncle Tom is bound for freedom, and Eliza is bound for decline. Stowe creates her characters in a way that describes each of her views, and each character resembles a real life situation Like the majority of Stowes character, religion plays a major role showing the beliefs and faiths of northerners, southerners, the well-treated slaves, and the badly treated slaves. Miss Ophelia is a character who resembles the north. She is a cousin of St. Clare, a rich man that treats his slaves fairly. Miss Ophelia arrives in the south with her northern views to help St. Clare manage his household. She is against slavery, but still does not feel equal to blacks. She expresses her views to St. Clare. I tell you Augustine, I cant get. Its a perfect abomination for you to defend such a system, -thats my mind. Robert E. Lee essays

Robert E. Lee essays Throughout history, there have been people whose names and faces have become synonymous with the time periods in which they lived. For example, Julius Caesar is synonymous with the late Roman Republic and George Washington is synonymous with the American Revolution. Just like these two men, the name Robert E. Lee has become synonymous with the American Civil War. Not only did Lee rise to become the most important and recognizable person in the Southern Confederacy, but his honor and virtuous acts during and after the war made him a hero to modern-day Americans. Even though he fought for what many consider the morally erroneous side of the war, the virtues of his character have made him a figure in American history that should be honored and remembered. Robert Edward Lee was born at Stratford Westmoreland County, Virginia, on January 19, 1807. Lee was the fourth of five children (the third son) of Ann Hill Carter Lee and Henry (Light-Horse Harry) Lee. Two children of Henry Lees first marriage also lived with the family (Thomas 916). Henry Lee had been a hero during the Revolutionary War and served as the governor of Virginia and a member of Congress. By the time Robert was born, his fathers fortune and estates were in shambles. Henry Lee was never very good at managing his estates and in 1809, was forced into prison due to the severity of his debts. Three years later, freed from jail, he was involved in a political brawl in Baltimore where he was beaten and disfigured for life. In an attempt to flee from debtors and reconsolidate his money, Henry Lee fled to Barbados. He died in 1818, never having seen his family again. Robert E. Lees older half-brother Henry Lee Jr., further dishonored the family in 1820 when it was dis covered that he had seduced and impregnated his wifes nine-teen year old sister. Despite the mistakes his father and brother made, Lee managed to grow learning t...

Papper 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Papper 2 - Essay Example The explosion at Deepwater Horizon can be traced back to several key missteps by all the companies involved. Their actions, purposefully or not, changed the lives of many individuals and ultimately deprived them of their fundamental international rights, hence violating their minimal duty and acting in a completely unethical way. In addition, the Deepwater Horizon spill is the exact opposite of the utilitarianism theory, because it actually minimized utility for everyone who was affected. The spill devastated coastal beaches and businesses that relied on tourism and fishing besides being a health hazard. This was unethical because the oil spill caused more harm than good to the society. However, the profits from the BP spills benefited the new wildlife fund. Still referring to the Deepwater Horizon case, an engineer’s responsibility to safety was violated. United States federal report blamed the worst spill in the US history on poor leadership and poor cement job by BP and its engineers. The explosions were as a result of poor risk management, last minute changes to plans, failure to observe and respond to critical indicators, inadequate well control response, and insufficient emergency bridge response training by companies. In relation to the code of ethics view, BP failed to institute safety and risk management policies that would help protect individuals from deprivation. Furthermore, their disaster preparedness plan was poorly
